TV Ratings 9/28/12: Return of Fringe gains older viewers but is down in Adults 18-49

Final seasons are often not kind to cult favorite shows. Last year, Chuck went into its final season and got weaker ratings among younger viewers, in particular. Fringe came back on Friday for its final season. It lost 27% of its Adults 18-49 rating, but gained 14% for people 50 or older. Did a bunch of you Fringe fans turn 50 this past year? If so, sorry I didn't send a card.

Fringe usually rises a lot when the Live + 7 day ratings come in, but it will be interesting if the rise makes up for the losses on a “same day” basis. Elsewhere on Friday, NBC’s Grimm pulled in a 1.6 Adult 25-54 rating and was the highest rated broadcast show in that demo. NBC began its season soon after the Olympics. It seems to have a steady fanbase with a median age of about 52 and a 57% female skew. If you are one of those fans, this show looks safe for the time being.

Week of 10/31/11: Terra Nova, Fringe, and Grimm Get Large Ratings Lifts From Time-shifters

Even though advertisers don't pay for these viewers, several SciFi/Fantasy shows appeared on the "Top 10 Time-shifting" list for the week of October 31st. Geekfurious fave New Girl also rose 45% to deliver an impressive 5.14 rating.



"Where's Chuck?", you may ask.

It had a 39% lift (from 0.85 to 1.18) and ranked 21st. This was a big drop from last week's season premiere which had lift of over 50%. I don't know what happened to these viewers.

Final Nov. 11th Ratings: Steady Chuck and Declines for Grimm

Chuck had a tiny increase this past Friday which was caused by a gain in the female demos. While Men 18-34 was up 13%, that is off a tiny base. Fewer households watched. That usually means more viewers per household when total viewers don't go down.

Grimm declined again. New shows often take several weeks to find their level. Time will tell if this is it. The losses were greater for men. The show is still beating time period competition Fringe, which came in with a 1.13 Adult 18-49 rating, which was 11% lower than last week's 1.27.
